How salary conversion works

Every pay rate can be expressed as an annual figure first, then divided into other periods. The calculator uses your hours per week, days per week and weeks per year so the conversions reflect your actual schedule rather than a fixed assumption.

Gross vs. net pay

The amounts shown are gross — your earnings before income tax and other deductions. To estimate take-home pay, you would subtract the taxes and contributions that apply where you live.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week, then by the number of weeks you work per year. For example, $25/hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 per year.

What is the difference between bi-weekly and semi-monthly?

Bi-weekly means every two weeks (26 pay periods a year). Semi-monthly means twice a month (24 pay periods a year), so the per-cheque amounts differ slightly.

Is this gross or net pay?

These figures are gross pay (before taxes and deductions). Your take-home pay will be lower after income tax, social contributions and other deductions.

Can I account for unpaid time off?

Yes — reduce the "weeks per year" value. For example, two weeks of unpaid leave would mean 50 weeks instead of 52.
