About the method

The US Navy formula uses the logarithm of your circumference measurements relative to height to estimate body fat. It is widely used because it is simple and reasonably accurate without special equipment.

General body-fat ranges

  • Men: essential 2–5%, athletes 6–13%, fitness 14–17%, average 18–24%, higher 25%+.
  • Women: essential 10–13%, athletes 14–20%, fitness 21–24%, average 25–31%, higher 32%+.
